"Epic Fail", as the kids like to say.

I tried to crochet a cloche-style hat for felting. I did have a pattern, but for some reason I ended up only vaguely following it. For example, I used a different size yarn, hook, and different stitch than the pattern called for. Also the pattern was written in centimeters and I only seem to have measuring devices with inches on them, so I kind of disregarded any measurement directions.

I imagined myself looking very stylish in a 1920's style hat. This is what I ended up with after felting it (I forgot to take a "before" picture which is probably just as well):

It is comically tall and conical. It is truly ridiculous. It is like a clown hat. I don't think the pictures really do it justice. As I was working on it I ran out of yarn and ended up having to order more from the Internet because no one in town had it. The felting process was long and annoying. I guess I learned a lot of lessons!

Here is a 5 year old wearing it:

For every cute knitted creature I create I also end up with a bunch of ill-fitting, ugly failures. I still can't seem to get the hang of knitting or crocheting things to wear that are supposed to fit a certain way. I suppose actually following the pattern might help. But sometimes even that doesn't seem to work.

I did just finish one glove which I am very happy with. If I can manage the second glove I will post a triumphant picture of them! Assuming I don't run out of yarn half way through and end up being unable to find any more of the same color...

I like it!

Also, I bet it looks much cuter with your head up--very cloche-y. Also could you turn the brim up in front? (I still like it!)

noooo the picture doesn't do it justice in terms of how truly god-awful and hilarious it is. It stand up about a foot off the top of my head. No amount of brim-turning can change the fact that a small dog could sit on top of my head underneath the hat. I'm thinking of turning it into a planter. Or something.
